Pyramids, Sphinx & Saqqara: the essential day

The Great Pyramid, the Sphinx and the Step Pyramid of Djoser in one unhurried day — with an Egyptologist who explains how, and why, they were built.
- Inside one of the pyramids (Great Pyramid or Khafre, your choice)
- The Sphinx from the valley temple of Khafre
- The Step Pyramid of Djoser, the world’s first monumental stone building
- A painted Old Kingdom tomb at Saqqara, usually empty of crowds
- Panoramic viewpoint over all nine pyramids
Most visitors see Giza from a coach window and a ten-minute photo stop. We do it differently: we arrive at opening, walk the plateau in the order it was built, and finish at Saqqara, where the story of the pyramid began with Djoser’s architect Imhotep around 2650 BC.
Along the way I will show you the quarry marks, the workers’ graffiti, the boat pits and the valley temple of Khafre — the details that turn a postcard into a place.
How I run this tour
- It is private: just you, your companions, me and a driver.
- The timings are a plan, not a schedule — we slow down wherever you want to.
- Questions are the point. Nothing is too basic or too nerdy.
“The stones are 4,500 years old. The stories should still feel alive.”

“Travelling with two kids (8 and 11), I was worried about long days. Karim turned it into a treasure hunt and they still talk about the “king’s secret boat”.”
“I came for the monuments and left with a real feeling for Egypt today. Karim answered every single one of my (many) questions.”
“We have done guided tours all over the world and this was the best. Perfectly timed to avoid the crowds — at one point we had a tomb completely to ourselves.”
